Pine Lodge School Home of the Equine String Festival
Pine Lodge School of Classical Equitation was established in 1988.
The ethos of the school dates back to the 17th Century with Pluvinals "Training of the King". Plus the teaching of many great masters in the intervening period. It must be remembered that classical equitation has its roots in training horses for battle.
The main criteria of training at Pine Lodge are;
- The Quest of Lightness
- No involuntary Movement
- Any direction easily
- Crookedness is the enemy of equitation
- The art of doing nothing
Because of the history of Classical Equitation, working equitation was the natural progression of the school viz video.
Our horses are trained to a minimum level of flying changes and lateral work. Of course some are established in Piaffe and passage. This gives the advanced and novice riders a feel for riding lovely horses with great movement and functionality. We have mainly Luistanos in the riding school because of their fantastic temperament and trainability. These are the indigenous horse of Portugal.
We breed Lusitano horses and have them for sale.
We also offer a livery service.
Training holidays are always popular accommodation for riders listed on our website.
Schooling customers horses whether trained or not or just improved.
Many of our working students and pupils have gone on to be well respected professional riders and trainers
